Learn To Swim Class Selection
|
Please use the following descriptions of skills to determine the appropriate class for your child. If you are signing your child up for multiple sessions, select the same level for each session. The instructor will notify you at the end of each session if your child graduated to the next level & you can instruct us to move child to next level.

IPAP - Parent and Me
Ages 6 mo. - 3 yrs. 10 students per class plus parent
- Bubble blowing
- Back float with support
- Game playing
- Kicking with support
Polliwogs - Level I - Water Exploration
Ages 3-4 5 students per class
- Fully submerged face
- Water games emphasized
- Support float and kick on front & back
- Enter & exit water with help or independently
Tadpoles - Level II - Movement Preparation
Ages 5 and up 6 students per class
- Fully submerged face
- Rhythmic breathing
- Introduce side breathing
- Unsupported kick on front & back
- Rotary arm motion with kick on front & back
Bullfrogs - Level III - Stroke Readiness
Ages 6 and up or completion of level II 8 students per class
- Front crawl with breathing to the side
- Coordinate back crawl
- Glide on front & back, with push off
- Retrieve objects, with no support
- Elementary backstroke

Sharks - Level IV - Stroke Development
Ages 6 and up or completion of level III 10 students per class
- Deep water bobbing

- Introduction to turns at the wall

Dolphins - Level V - Stroke Refinement
Ages 6 and up or completion of level IV 10 students per class

- Swimming underwater [3 body lengths]
- Butterfly [1 length]
- Long shallow dive
- Stride jump entry

Orcas - Level VI - Stroke Enhancement
Ages 8 and up or completion of level V 12 students per class
- Open turns

Late Start II
Ages 10 and up 12 students per class
- Geared for older children interested in learning the basic skills offered in beginning Level II Tadpoles

Jr. Lifeguard This class meets for one hour each night the first week of each session only. Child must be 12 years old and have successfully completed Level 5. It is recommended the child also complete Level 6. Must be able to swim 4 lengths of the pool or 100 consecutive yards of freestyle. Students taking this class may also sign-up for CPR for the Junior Lifeguard which meets one Saturday in July for 5 hours- see schedule.
CPR for the Jr. Lifeguard This class meets on Saturday, July 18, from 9am-2:30 pm. Only students signed up for the Jr. Lifeguard course may take this class. Parents of children signed up for lifeguard class are permitted to sign up the week before CPR class begins, space permitting. The student will receive Red Cross certification in Adult, Child and infant CPR. Maximum of 20 students per class.
In Addition to Polliwog & Tadpole classes at Kinesiology pool, Polliwog & Tadpole classes are also held at the SRC Poo. SRC Pool is maximum 4 feet deep and does not have a diving board.
