Master Teacher Profile
children's center Name: Brenda Plascencia-Carrizosa
Educational Background: Masters of Science in Counseling (Marriage and Family Therapy)
Bachelors of Science in Child Development
Position: Master Teacher – Garden Room
Experience: I have worked at the Children's Center for about 15 years and have worked in the field of Early Childhood for almost 18. I have had experience with children from birth through 3rd grade in after school programs, special education, day care and early childhood education programs. I recently had the opportunity to work as an adjunct faculty in the Child Development Department of CSUF and Fullerton College. All of these experiences have given me a greater perspective on how to work with young children.
Philosophy: I believe that learning is a lifelong process that begins the day we are born. Learning happens with every experience and every interaction of every day and for children this involves lots and lots of PLAY! Children learn naturally through their play by following their curiosity. Teaching happens when we have the opportunity to build off children’s interests, offer new experiences and support each child’s individual needs. When this can be accomplished it becomes a dance between the teacher and the child that is filled with wonder energy and excitement.

Empowerment is often a term associated with adults, but I believe that the early years provide a wonderful opportunity for us to give children the experience of feeling powerful. By offering children choices and including them in activities that they can do on their own and by giving them daily jobs we are able to help them develop a better sense of who they are in relation to our school community.

Greatest Rewards: One of the greatest rewards is the meaningful and deep relationships that I develop with the children, families and staff. I enjoy watching the children grow and change, but I especially enjoy watching the wonder of learning, that moment when the children realize something new and experience pure joy. I also value being able to share multi-sensory as well as musical experiences with the children. It is a great honor to share in the life of each child who is in my care.
Comments: I am married to my husband David and have a wonderful son named Cesar who is in high school (oh my goodness, did I say high school….) and we love spending time together whenever we can. We have family day every Sunday and are involved at our church. We also like playing games together, watching movies, swimming and vacationing when we can. Personally I love to garden, work on puzzles, shop for a good bargain, and I couldn’t imagine life without children.
