Children's Center Parent Handbook a dad and his son
(714) 278-2961

The Children's Center has compiled a handbook to provide parents with an
understanding of the facility, policies, procedures, and goals of the Children's Center.

Welcome to the Children's Center. We are looking forward to knowing you
and your child and hope that we can help you both make a happy transition
to school and group care.

During the next months (or years) you will become actively involved in the Children's Center. Whether your role is that of a parent, intern, or teacher, you will be helping children learn. We hope that you will enjoy your time with us, and that it will be a time for you, too, to learn. All members of the Children's Center community are invited to teach, learn, explore, and share.

Our primary goal is to help children feel good about themselves -- to build high self-esteem. We try to do this by providing a safe environment in which children can be successful as they encounter the challenges of the world we live in.

The rest of this book will introduce you to our "systems" ... please read it carefully and keep it where you can refer to it during your stay with us.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE
ADMISSION

Each semester, priority for admission is given to previously-enrolled children of continuing CSUF students, faculty, and staff.New siblings of returning children have next priority. New CSUF students' children are admitted each semester based on income eligibility guidelines for the state-subsidized portion of the program, and on first-come-first-served basis for the full-cost students, faculty, and staff. A waiting list of interested families is maintained for the purpose of determining priority for new enrollment. Students who have been on leave for up to one year may re-enroll ahead of new children.

PARENT SUPPORT

We need the help of every parent ... time, energy, thought and creativity... in order to operate a quality child care program.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS

The participation of parents in many aspects of the program to reflect the diverse polpulation of the Center. Parent participation also provides added security for the children.

Durring the first 2 semesters of enrollment, all families are asked to volunteer a total if 16 hours of time and effort to support the program. The various volunteer assignments are posted in classrooms and in the main lobby area. Some work can be completed on site, and other assistance is provided by taking things home.
