Associated Students, CSUF, Inc.
In November 1959, the students of California State University, Fullerton voted to organize a student government program. The program was initially known as the Student Senate. After 26 years in existence, the Student Senate opted to incorporate in an effort to enhance business relationships and improve fiscal independence. In 1976, the student government was renamed the Associated Students, CSUF, Incorporated and began operation as a California 501C3 non-profit organization. Student fees paid each semester support the ASI. By paying this fee, students are automatically members of Associated Students, Inc. The purpose of the ASI is to provide academic and co-curricular programs and services for students.
CSUF Children's Center
The CSUF Children's Center was one of the initial programs supported by the Student Senate, now known as Associated Students, Incorporated. The Children's Center was founded in 1971 by students with the support of the student government. For the first eight years, the Children's Center was located off-campus. In 1979, the Center relocated to the CSUF campus, where it operates still today. The Children's Center serves between 165 to 190 children per semester, aged six months to pre-kindergarten. In 1982, it began to prepare nutritional breakfast, lunch, and snacks with assistance from California Office of Nutritional Services. The Children's Center was greatly benefited in 1996 when CSUF students overwhelmingly passed a Referendum to raise fees by $10 per semester to raise money for a new Children's Center building. The CSUF Children's Center is anticipating the announcement of their new site on campus in the near future.
Titan Student Union
In 1966, CSUF students passed a referendum to construct a student union building on the Cal State Fullerton campus. The building was named the University Center, and construction began in 1974. In 1976 the University Center opened for student use, featuring a food court, study lounges, meeting rooms, a typing center, a plant store, ice cream parlor, and a host of other facilities and services to meet students needs and interests. In 1987, another referendum was passed to enlarge the University Center. In 1992, construction was completed, and the building was renamed the Titan Student Union. The new expansion of the Titan Student Union added the TSU Conference Center, food court expansion, and student organization offices. This construction roughly doubled the size of the original building.
