Frequently Asked Questions

When will the Student Recreation Center open for use?
The Student Recreation Center is expected to be completed and open for campus use sometime during the Spring 2008 academic semester, as projected.

Why isn’t there a published “opening day” for the center?
The fluid nature of a construction project of this magnitude would have required the Associated Students Inc. (ASI) scheduling an “opening day” that would have been artificially later in the academic calendar - in order to account for unpredictable external factors associated with the project’s completion (such as potential weather delays and other uncontrollable factors).

Because such delays may or may not take place, and because the ASI is committed to making the facility available for student use as soon as possible – the organization has intentionally not published any scheduled “opening day”. Our strategy has been, and remains, to open the Student Recreation Center as soon as is practical.

How have external factors, including the weather, impacted the construction of the Student Recreation Center?
Construction of the Student Recreation Center project was impacted by recent heavy rains. In January 2008, Fullerton received approximately two and a half inches of rainfall. This inclement weather resulted in some construction delays, both during the rains as well as in the immediate days that followed, when wet soil conditions prohibited some exterior work on walk ways, pool decking, and other exterior site requirements from taking place.

What efforts are being made to ensure the Student Recreation Center is completed in a timely manner?
The completion of the Student Recreation Center is being managed by a highly reputable team of construction professionals, and they are making every effort to deliver a quality and timely project to our campus. Their efforts include scheduling concurrent trades to work side by side on the project whenever practical, as well as six day-a-week construction activity.

Are Titan Recreation programs currently being offered?
Until the completion of the Student Recreation Center, many Titan Recreation programs and services will continue to be offered in the Kinesiology and Health Sciences (KHS) building. Be sure to drop by the Titan Recreation office at KHS-159 or call 714-278-PLAY to learn more.

Where will the Student Rec. Center be located?
The Student Recreation Center will be located in the northwest quadrant of the CSUF campus, on land formerly designated as surface parking lot "B". The Student Recreation Center will be located immediately north of the Titan Student Union, and will share its west facing exterior wall with new parking structure currently under construction. The Student Recreation Center, the Titan Student Union, and the Parking Structure will be supported with improved pedestrian walkways, a service vehicle road, and expanded service loading docks.

Who will be allowed to use the future Student Rec. Center?
The Student Recreation Center will primarily serve the Cal State Fullerton community (students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and campus affiliates).

How much will users have to pay?
All currently enrolled Cal State Fullerton students will receive use privileges based on the Titan Student Union fee they pay each semester. Click here for prices for CSUF faculty, staff, and extended education students.

As a student, what if I leave CSUF before the center is completed?
CSUF students who have contributed fees to support the future facility and leave before the completion of the Student Recreation Center can apply for a discounted alumni pass. The total amount a student paid in fees towards the project during the academic terms will be pro-rated towards his/her alumni membership.

How will the project be funded?
The majority of the cost of the construction and operation of the Student Recreation Center will be supported by the increased portion of the Titan Student Union fee paid by students each semester. Remaining expenses incurred by project costs will be funded by bond financing and contributions from Titan Student Union reserves.

Can I be a member?
Membership to the new Student Recreation Center will be included as one of the benefits enrolled CSUF students receive as part of their paid Titan Student Union fees. Memberships will also be available for purchase to members of the university community including: campus faculty and staff (including auxiliary organization staff members), registered alumni, students enrolled in Extended Education or American Language programs, and spouses/domestic partners of enrolled students and other campus community members.
