STUDENT REFERRAL RESOURCES(657) 278-7736
Student development research is clear that students who achieve academically and persist to graduation are the ones who are connected to other students, to faculty, to staff, and to the campus. These connections provide a strong base of support for students as they navigate their collegiate careers.

Ask the questions.
How are your classes going? How are you doing?
When we show students that we care about their academic success, we become partners in that success. The questions are simple, but they communicate so much to students when we ask them with genuineness and openness to really hearing the responses. When we ask the questions, we help to keep the focus where it should be, on academic progress and achieving that degree.
Know the resources.
Knowing how to make a good referral when a student is having trouble with classes or with personal issues demonstrates that we are a caring community, committed to our students’ success. In this brochure you will fi nd many important and useful resources that you can refer your students to.
Encourage their academic achievement.
We can impact our students and their success by remembering that a paper or group project was due and inquiring how it went; by acknowledging it is midterms or fi nals and checking in on how they are doing; by celebrating with them when things go well and by helping them to build resilience when things do not. Students succeed when they feel support and connection.
