Candidate Slogan
When Emma leads, Art succeeds.
Candidate Biography
My name is Emma Rodriguez and I am an artist and arts advocate. I am passionate about making the arts more accessible, especially for students and communities who may not always feel like these spaces are for them. I come from a background in theatre and community based arts, and a lot of my work centers around using creativity as a way to bring people together.
My long term career goal is to help create and support affordable art programs in communities that need them most. I believe that art should not be something only certain people get access to. Whether it is through performance, visual art, music, or storytelling, creative spaces can help people feel seen, supported, and connected. I care deeply about building community and helping others find spaces where they can express themselves, build confidence, and feel a sense of belonging on campus and beyond.
Candidate Statement/Platform
If elected, I hope to create more opportunities for students to share their creativity and connect across different majors and disciplines. I want to support events that bring together students from all areas of the arts, as well as students who may not consider themselves artists but still want creative outlets.
Some of the things I would love to help organize include open mics, outdoor night markets or art exhibits, play readings, and networking events across the arts. I think it is important to have low pressure spaces where students can share their work, try new things, and meet other creative people without feeling judged or intimidated. Many students have creative interests but do not always know where to go to express them.
I also care about accessibility and outreach. Events should feel welcoming and affordable, and students should actually hear about them. I want to help improve communication so more students feel invited to participate. Overall, my goal is to strengthen creative community on campus and help students feel more connected through the arts.
