Assessment & Effectiveness

Facilitating outcome-oriented assessment to nurture ASI’s culture of evidence-based decision-making and continuous improvement.

About ASI Assessment & Effectiveness

Assessment & Effectiveness (A&E) is one of 12 departments in Associated Students Inc. at California State University, Fullerton. A&E enhances opportunities for students to engage in the Titan Experience by fostering a culture of evidence and helping fellow staff gather information to improve the student experience and make data-informed decisions. A&E actively collaborates with ASI staff and students in the assessment process to strengthen ASI and the students we serve.

1) When you have an idea for a study, contact Assessment & Effectiveness as soon as possible by completing the Assessment Support Request form.

    • This form will ask you some questions to understand your study’s purpose and scope. Please answer each question to the best of your ability, but don’t let any question prohibit you from submitting the form. If you reach a question you aren’t sure of the answer to, just submit the form. We will work with whatever information you are able to provide to prepare for the initial planning meeting.
    • Please submit your request form at least 6 weeks before you need to begin implementing the study method(s) (e.g., distribute survey, begin interviews): much of these 6 weeks will be spent working with you to design an effective study that will produce meaningful, actionable data.

2) During the initial planning meeting, we will…

    • review your study request with you to ensure we understand the purpose of your assessment, your intended resulting improvement actions/decisions, and other pertinent contextual information;
    • review the assessment study process with you to ensure everyone understands their responsibilities throughout each step; and
    • review options for how to implement the study and begin collaboratively designing your assessment plan.

3) Throughout the following 4-6 weeks, we will collaboratively plan and develop your study.

    • Your (or your team’s) responsibilities and workloads (relative to A&E’s) that relate to each phase of the study–planning, data collection, analysis, and reporting– will be determined and clarified by A&E based on the purpose and scope of your study.

4) Data collection (according to study plan)

5) Data analysis and reporting (according to study plan)

6) A&E will be available upon request to consult on the interpretation of findings, continuous improvement action planning, and advisement for continued/future study.

Important Information

Depending on your study’s purpose and scope and your assessment support needs, the time needed to complete studies varies. Please plan ahead and allocate enough time to ensure that all aspects of the studies can be accomplished. We encourage you to plan for 6 weeks between your initial idea and the implementation of the project. If A&E is able and needed to conduct data analysis, we may need approximately 3-4 weeks to analyze the data and prepare a report.

Assessment Outcomes

Developing, planning, and implementing all programs and services with a focus on student outcomes, ASI is currently assessing the outcomes featured below.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

ASI Student Involvement Model

A student involved in the activities, programs, and services of ASI develops skills and abilities related to practical competence, self-efficacy, and inclusive interdependence. ASI’s facilities, services, and experiences are designed and assessed through these 3 themes of development with sets of learning outcomes articulated specifically for each type of involvement: student employment, student leadership, and student program participation.
