Candidate Statement/Platform

Hello Titans!

My name is Yahir Flores, and I am honored to run for the ASI Board of Directors representing the College of Education. As a graduate student in Higher Education and a longtime student leader within the CSU system, I believe deeply in student-centered leadership, equity, and the power of collective advocacy to create meaningful change on our campuses.

I am running for this position because students in the College of Education are preparing to become educators, counselors, and leaders who will shape future generations. Our voices deserve strong representation in the spaces where decisions are made about our academic programs, professional opportunities, and campus resources. I am committed to ensuring that the needs and experiences of College of Education students are heard.

My leadership journey has been grounded in advocacy and service. I previously served in various student leadership roles at my previous institution, allowing me to work with campus administrators, faculty, and students to advance initiatives that supported access, affordability, and student well-being. I have also served on systemwide boards within the CSU system and participated in advocacy efforts in Sacramento and Washington, D.C., where I spoke with legislators about the importance of fully funding public higher education and supporting underserved student communities. These experiences have prepared me to navigate governance spaces, build coalitions, and turn student concerns into action.

My approach to leadership is rooted in collaboration, care, and accountability. I believe that effective representation means listening intentionally, communicating openly, and advocating consistently. I am committed to showing up for students, building partnerships, and working toward a collective movement where students feel seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.

I would be honored to earn your support and serve as your representative. Go Titans!
