Candidate Slogan
Concerted Effort Is What Matters!
Candidate Biography
My name is Jasmine Yang, a 3rd year in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Aging Sciences. I am an active student in all segments of campus, from research to being a friendly face you can always say hello to! I serve as the President of the Society of Women Engineers, where I promote hands-on engineering skills in a welcoming environment. My research ties in biomedical engineering as I have a focus on developing devices that can promote the safety of our aging populations. As a transgender woman in engineering, I am a role model for not just the queer communities but anyone who wants to look up to a person who works hard!
Candidate Statement/Platform
If elected to the Board of Directors, I want to improve the visibility of student clubs by creating a more prominent club poster board in the engineering department that highlights active organizations and their ongoing work. I also hope to establish a system that introduces underclassmen to upperclassmen earlier in their academic journey to encourage mentorship and collaboration, which can be achieved through dedicated outreach events designed to bring these groups together in a relaxed and welcoming environment. In addition, I have seen how women in engineering often face barriers in both academic and extracurricular spaces, and I am committed to supporting our women-focused organizations, including SWE and WISCE, while strengthening our relationship with the Women’s Resource Center to ensure that all students feel empowered to participate and succeed.
