ASI’s Food Pantry Pop-Ups Offer Fresh Approach to Campus Food Insecurity

ASI’s Food Pantry Pop-Ups Offer Fresh Approach to Campus Food Insecurity

  • ASI will distribute free food on March 18 and 24 in the Central Quad, with no prior sign-up needed.
  • The pop-ups aim to increase visibility of the Food Pantry, as many students are unaware of it.
  • The event includes cooking demos and resources from TitanWell to support student health.

Associated Students Inc. welcomes all Cal State Fullerton students to its Food Pantry pop-ups on March 18, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and March 24, 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the CSUF Central Quad. Food staples like produce, fruit, vegetables, canned goods, snacks and reheatable meals will be distributed to those who may be facing food insecurity. Interested students can use the QR code at the site to quickly register and collect their groceries without needing to sign up beforehand.

Based on assessments conducted throughout the two semesters, 40 percent of CSUF students don’t know that we’re here,” said ASI Food Pantry Coordinator Talia Rodriguez. “So, we want to increase the visibility of ourselves with all CSUF students.”

Set-up in the middle of campus, the pop-ups better provide visibility and accessibility. This helps students who can’t regularly visit the Pantry in person.

In collaboration with Cooking Healthy & Optimal Movement (CHOMP), the event will also feature live cooking demonstrations to give students ideas on how to use their fresh groceries.

“Developing these recipes and giving cooking demonstrations allows visitors to learn how to cook healthy with options that we provide,” said Rodriguez.  “TitanWell will also be there to link students to other methods and resources to living a healthy life here on campus.”

Students are encouraged to bring their reusable grocery bags and join conversations about food insecurity. They can also collect resources from the pop-up and partners to ensure overall wellness.
