Greek Life at CSUF Raises Over $70K for ASI’s Children’s Center—A Record-Breaking Effort

  • Fraternity and Sorority Life partner up with the Children’s Center during Greek Week.
  • Greek Week collaborates along other CSUF resources to help raise money for the Children’s Center to support student families.

In a notable display of generosity and community spirit, Greek life or Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) raised $71,712 for ASI’s Children’s Center during Greek Week, with the women’s fraternity Alpha Chi Omega leading all participating chapters in total funds raised.

This is a major milestone for FSL at CSUF, as the amount raised is not only a record but an effort that students and staff on campus can recognize and utilize.

“Greek Week is a long-week program dedicated to fostering unity and relationships between Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) and other departments at CSUF,” said Assistant Director of Strategic Initiatives, Aaron Tapper. “Adding an element of friendly competition with events such as kickball and spirited chants infuse an exciting energy throughout the week.”

FSL also invites alumni to a CSUF baseball game to enhance the sense of community and participation. Throughout the week, all the chapters set up tables along Titan Walk to host “coin wars,” encouraging fellow Titans to participate and donate. FSL organizations actively campaigned on social media, consistently sharing the donation link to maximize engagement.

“We work from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. that entire week to make sure everything runs smoothly,” said active member of Gama Phi Beta, Olivia Ireland. “Friday, they announce how much money we raised, and the kids from the Children’s Center join us which is my favorite part of the event.”

Supporting Student Families

This event particularly focuses on the pillar of service and philanthropy involved in FSL. Greek Week organizers collaborated with the Basic Needs Resource center, the Queer Resource Center and ASI’s Food Pantry to donate needed items as well as collect monetary contributions to give to the Children’s Center.

The funds raised will go directly to supporting the Children’s Center, a vital resource for students with children and CSUF staff. The Center offers affordable childcare services, allowing student-parents to pursue their academic goals while knowing their children are well cared for. For ASI Director of the Children’s Center, Lydia Palacios couldn’t be more thrilled at this gesture.

“We’re planning to update and furnish our outdoor classroom equipment,” said Palacios. “This is a great area to focus on because we understand the need for our kids to be outside and explore with the appropriate materials.”

FSL and Children’s center established their partnership three years ago. It has grown each year, with more planning and goals successfully achieved.

Last year fraternities and sororities fundraised enough money to install an outdoor shade tarp over the school yard. Greek Life raised six times more than last year, enabling meaningful improvements to the outdoor environment at the Children’s Center.”

The increased fundraising also reflects a growing recognition that student parents—who often face unique challenges—deserve more than just basic support.  The Greek Life community, along with its partners, comes together with a purpose to raise awareness and offer meaningful assistance.

This is a reminder of what can be achieved when students come together with a shared vision and a heart for service. The $71,712 raised will ensure the Children’s Center continues to provide invaluable services for years to come, showing that the CSUF community, led by Greek life, is deeply committed to supporting the next generation of students and their families.
