ASI Hosts Titan Cup: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to Unite CSUF Gamers and Build Community

Cal State Fullerton student gamers and enthusiasts can find community and competition at Associated Students Inc.’s (ASI) first fall esports Titan Cup Series on Sept. 19 at 2 p.m. in the Titan Student Union Esports Lounge. Registration has been open at no cost from Aug. 15 and remains available through Sept. 18 via the CSUF esports Discord server.

The semester-long competition series kicks off with the Super Smash Bros. Tournament, designed to encourage student participation in competitive gaming and provide opportunities for players to develop their skills.

“Gaming is a digital-first space, but what makes the Titan Cup special is that we bring people together physically,” said Aaron Chi, ASI Titan Bowl & Billiards and Esports coordinator. “In this lounge, students connect face-to-face, compete side-by-side and make memories that go way beyond the screen.”

In collaboration with the CSUF Smash Club and Micro-Star International, this event offers an inclusive space where players of all skill levels can connect and compete.

“CSUF Smash Club has been an incredible partner in making this tournament possible,” said Robby Ho, ASI esports student assistant. “Their support with hardware, space management and event logistics has allowed us to streamline operations and increase student club visibility.”

In addition to tournament play, the Esports Lounge now offers free drop-in gaming sessions on Fridays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., providing casual gaming and opportunities for students to gain experience in streaming, commentary, game development and event organization.

“People think it’s just about playing games, but there’s so much more behind the scenes,” Ho said. “The Esports Lounge gives students opportunities to build teams, manage events and develop leadership skills; it’s a training ground for real-world experience.”

Now entering its second year, ASI’s Titan Cup is expanding with new game titles, enhanced resources and a growing number of participants. As it expands, the series showcases the impact of campus gaming communities and emphasizes team-based bonding at Titan Cup this fall.

Information about upcoming Titan Cup events is available on the ASI website.
