Titan Outdoors Opens New Rental Space at Student Recreation Center

Titans ready to embark on their next camping, hiking or climbing adventure can head to the Student Recreation Center and its new Titan Outdoors equipment rental space.

Associated Students Inc. invites students, faculty and outdoor enthusiasts to explore the new space at its grand opening on Jan. 21 at 11 a.m. to learn more about Titan Outdoors opportunities.

“Titan Outdoors is a great ASI-funded program that gives Cal State Fullerton students the chance to explore the outdoors together, all while keeping costs affordable,” said Gavin Ong, chair of the ASI board of directors. “With past trips like the Grand Canyon, Death Valley hikes, full moon paddling and Catalina Island snorkeling, we’ve built a close-knit community of students who keep coming back for more adventures.”

The Titans Outdoors rental space is designed to serve as an equipment rental hub and a space for students, faculty and staff to connect with Titan Outdoor leaders, learn about upcoming trips and programs, and gain valuable insights into outdoor adventures. With sponsorship from Columbia, Mountain Hardware and Prana, the equipment is high-quality and trending in the current outdoor community.

In addition to offering resources for rentals, the space provides opportunities for hands-on learning and helps Titans build confidence in their outdoor skills.

“It’s exciting to have a dedicated location where we can showcase the full potential of Titan Outdoors and provide an accessible, welcoming environment for students and the broader campus community,” said Angel Ramos, ASI outdoor adventures coordinator.

For the first time, students will have a dedicated location where they can rent essential outdoor equipment, including camp stoves, lanterns, backpacks, sleeping bags, climbing gear and a variety of tents. In addition to renting equipment for Titan Outdoor trips, students will receive training on how to properly use the gear for both group expeditions and personal adventures.

“This space means a more intentional focus on growing Titan Outdoors and giving the program a home in the SRC,” said JP Gale, director of the Student Recreation Center. “It means more CSUF students, some who may not have the experience or resources to do so on their own, can participate in our outings. Above all, we’re looking to increase reach and accessibility for students on campus.”

The grand opening will showcase rental equipment and how it is used on trips. Additionally, attendees can enjoy free climbing on the SRC’s climbing wall and get a preview of Titan Outdoors’ spring 2025 trip offerings like Big Sur, Joshua Tree and Yosemite National Park.

“This space is a reflection of our commitment to helping students get outside and explore nature,” said Ramos. “I’m passionate about outdoor adventure, and I’m thrilled that we now have a place to nurture that passion in others.”
