Pinar Okan
Seeking Candidacy for: Board of Directors, College of the Business and Economics

Biography:

Hello Titans! My name is Pinar Okan, and I am an international freshman majoring
in Economics with a minor in Mathematics. Coming from a different country, I bring
a global perspective and a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
From the moment I arrived, I dedicated myself to enhancing our Economics and
Business Department by fostering a more inclusive, forward-thinking, and
opportunity-driven environment.

Through my participation in national competitions, I have earned three national
titles in Economics, Social Engagement & Awareness, and Decent Work & Economic
Growth, a core pillar of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Additionally, I have served as a Youth Council Member in my country’s capital,
where I have represented and amplified the voices of over one million adolescent
for the past two years.

Beyond my academic achievements, I am actively engaged in the American
Marketing Association and am leading the establishment of a construction
company. These experiences have reinforced my unwavering belief in equal
opportunities, human-centered leadership, and mental well-being.

Statement/Platform:

If selected, I will dedicate myself to creating an opportunity-filled environment
where students can grow, connect, and succeed by prioritizing the following key
initiatives.

1) Innovation and progress stem from the freedom to explore, create, and
challenge ideas. I will work to strengthen accessibility to research resources,
funding, and mentorship opportunities, empowering students to take on ambitious
projects and groundbreaking studies. Every student should have the tools and
support needed to turn their academic vision into reality.

2) I am an advocate for a world free from racism and sexism—where every student,
regardless of their background, gender, or identity, has the chance to succeed
without bias or discrimination. True progress comes from embracing diverse
perspectives, respecting individual values, and ensuring that every voice is heard
and valued.

3) I am committed to strengthening student engagement by expanding resources
and facilities for clubs and associations. Additionally, I will actively promote
attendance at athletic events, encouraging students to support their peers who
represent our institution, fostering a stronger sense of community and school
spirit.

Leading and empowering hundreds of individuals has been one of the most
fulfilling aspects of my journey. Being a strong, representative voice, and creating
impactful change is my passion. Now, I am eager to bring my leadership, global
perspective, and commitment to inclusivity to the Board of Directors for the
Economics and Business Department.

Together, we can build a stronger, more connected, and opportunity-driven
department—one that values diversity, fosters innovation, and ensures equal
opportunities for all. I look forward to your support in making this vision a reality.
