Hello! My name is Madison Salguero and I am in my third year majoring in both Sociology and American Studies. Apart from my classes, my main campus involvement is working in the Outreach, Recruitment and Orientation department as a Titan Ambassador. I have been in this position for over a year and I lead campus tours for prospective students, and have gained valuable skills in leadership and communication throughout my time here. I have also worked as an Orientation Leader in the past, connecting with incoming students, and I am eager to shift my focus into contributing to our current campus community if I were elected to the Board of Directors. I have also studied abroad twice, once in Vancouver, Canada, and recently over this past winter break in New Zealand. These experiences have led me to grow as a person and gain a global perspective into leadership and teamwork with my classmates. In my free time, I enjoy going to the beach, reading, crafting, and taking dance classes at the SRC. I am so grateful to have this opportunity and hope to be a great potential leader for our community.
Throughout my time here at Cal State Fullerton, I have learned so many life lessons about community building and leadership. I have learned how to be a leader, and my communication skills, especially while being a part of a team, is one of my greatest strengths. I live my life with the mentality of ‘paying it forward’ at every opportunity my life provides. I find that I do this the most with connections in my life, whether that be sticking by my word and being present with my loved ones, or physically with my actions and my privilege I hold. My favorite part of being involved in such a lively society like our campus is connecting with students and learning from others. As a student in the college of Humanities and Social Sciences, I have taken course after course about human connection and society. Here, I have learned how important it is to support students of diverse backgrounds and underrepresented groups who have gone unseen for so long. Using my voice is a privilege, and if I were to be elected onto the Board of Directors I would focus on being a liaison and advocate for these communities. Our academic college in particular has so many incredible opportunities for students. From financial support for our study abroad programs, to unique academic pathways for career success that most students are unaware of because of the lack of accessibility. I would love to close this gap between the available resources and the students who are searching for these opportunities but are unsure how to access them, whether this be through funding or strategizing plans to make our resources known and accessible. I would like to expand this concept by making ASI events and opportunities approachable and advocate for transparency in decision making. I would greatly appreciate the support of my fellow students in the Humanities and Social Sciences college to help me bring these visions of improvement into a betterment of our university come to life.
Create community, hear student voices!
