Greek Life at CSUF Raises Over $70K for ASI’s Children’s Center—A Record-Breaking Effort

  • Fraternity and Sorority Life partner up with the Children’s Center during Greek Week.
  • Greek Week collaborates along other CSUF resources to help raise money for the Children’s Center to support student families.

In a notable display of generosity and community spirit, Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) at Cal State Fullerton raised $71,712 for the Associated Students Inc. Children’s Center during Greek Week, with the sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, leading all participating chapters in total funds raised.

This marks a major milestone for FSL at CSUF, as the amount raised is not only a record but also a meaningful achievement that students and staff can celebrate and build upon.

“Greek Week is a weeklong program dedicated to fostering unity and relationships between Fraternity and Sorority Life and other departments at CSUF,” said ASI Assistant Director of Strategic Initiatives Aaron Tapper. “Adding an element of friendly competition with events such as kickball and spirited chants infuse an exciting energy throughout the week.”

FSL also invited alumni to a CSUF baseball game to enhance community participation. Throughout the week, chapters set up tables along Titan Walk to host “coin wars,” encouraging fellow Titans to participate and donate. FSL organizations also actively campaigned on social media, consistently sharing the donation link to maximize engagement.

“We work from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. that entire week to make sure everything runs smoothly,” said active member of Gama Phi Beta, Olivia Ireland. “On Friday, they announced how much money we raised, and the kids from the Children’s Center joined us, which was my favorite part of the event.”

Supporting Student Families

This year’s event particularly emphasized FSL’s commitment to service and philanthropy. Greek Week organizers collaborated with the Basic Needs Resource Center, the Queer Resource Center and the ASI Food Pantry to donate essential items and collect monetary contributions for the Children’s Center.

The funds will go directly to supporting the Children’s Center, a vital resource for students-parents and CSUF faculty and staff. It offers affordable childcare, helping student-parents pursue their academic goals with peace of mind, knowing their children are on their own educational journey and are in good hands. Children’s Center Director Lydia Palacios said she is thrilled with the impact.

“We’re planning to update and furnish our outdoor classroom equipment,” Palacios said. “This is a great area to focus on because we understand the need for our kids to be outside and explore with the appropriate materials.”

FSL and Children’s Center began their partnership three years ago, and it has grown steadily, with more planning, participation and goals achieved each year.

Last year, fraternities and sororities raised enough to install an outdoor shade tarp over the school yard. This year, Greek Life raised six times that amount, enabling meaningful improvements to the Children’s Center’s outdoor environment.

The increase in fundraising reflects a growing awareness that student-parents – who often face unique challenges – deserve more than just basic support.  The Greek Life community, along with its campus partners, has come together with a purpose to raise awareness and provide tangible assistance.

The $71,712 raised will help ensure the Children’s Center can continue providing vital services for the student families, reflecting the strong support to the CSUF community.
