Cal State Fullerton Goes Green: ASI Hosts a Spellbinding ‘Wicked Night’ Celebration for Students

Broadway enthusiasts, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo superfans and those looking for a good story can attend Associated Students Inc.’s Wicked Night to celebrate all things “Wicked” on Nov.18, 7-9 p.m. in the Titan Student Union Portola Pavilion. The night will include witch hat and wand crafting, photo-ops, singalongs, glitter tattoos, balloon art and trivia, open to all Cal State Fullerton students.

The highest-grossing Broadway musical adaptation of all time, the release of the 2024 film reflected themes of belonging, agency and change, resonating with Gen-Z audiences. With the release of the second part of the story, “Wicked: For Good” is expected to break box office records again, expanding the legacy of “Wicked” as a story of friendship, identity and the courage to defy expectations.

“Many Gen Z students grew up watching it with their families or listening to its soundtrack,” ASI Programming Student Sofia Ayala said. “Now, with the upcoming film adaptation starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, there’s even more excitement. Both artists have strong fan bases among young audiences, which not only elevates the movie’s appeal but also connects a nostalgic childhood favorite with current pop culture icons.”

ASI’s past theme nights include Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter and K-POP Night, garnering over 300 attendees per event and exploring relevant pop culture icons and topics. Star actress Cynthia Erivo and award-winning director Jon M. Chu were also guests at ASI’s Beyond the Conversation series in the last year, where they shared their journeys in entertainment success to students.

“These events are so popular because they are easily accessible for students who live nearby, and are always free,” Ayala said. “Students are normally given either food or drinks and they always leave the event with free promo items, crafts they made, or photos from the night.”

Students can expect an Ozdacious celebration as they’re catapulted into Oz culture, crafts and snacks for good at this year’s “Wicked Night”.
