Seeking Candidacy for: Board of Directors, College of Engineering and Computer Science

Biography:

I am a third year student majoring in Computer Science. I currently serve as an Open Source Software Officer for the Association for Computer Machinery (ACM) here in CSUF. In this role, I lead a team of web backend developers, and organize workshops that teach new skills to students interested in open source software contribution. Last year, I also had the opportunity to intern with a cyber security firm, where I tested and verified the security of client systems.

I credit much of my professional growth to the opportunities available to me as an ECS student. Whether it be in classes, clubs, or hackathons, I have been able to collaborate with countless talented students, and learn valuable career skills. As an ASI representative for the College of Engineering and Computer Science, I will be committed to giving back to the ECS community!

Statement/Platform:

My campaign will focus on supporting student organizations, tearing down barriers to education, and putting student needs first.

It can’t be understated how important student organizations are to students’ success. They offer incredible opportunities for exploring fields of interest, building skills, and networking. I am committed to bridging the gap between student organizations and the ECS department, so that communication and collaboration between them becomes smoother than ever. This will improve access to facilities, such as rooms in the ECS buildings for meetings, and equipment for club activities. I will also increase recognition for organization accomplishments, such as winning intercollegiate competitions. With increased awareness, more students will be interested in participating, allowing our community to grow further.

Maximizing student opportunities means minimizing obstacles along the way. For students entering ECS, the cost for laptops, software, textbooks, and other resources can be a barrier for learning. Many students also rely on student tutors for support to get through classes, but aren’t able to match their schedules with the lower tutor availability. I will work towards tearing down these barriers to education by increasing funding for these resources.

Above all, I believe that ECS must always put student needs first. My first priority is making sure that student voices will be heard. I encourage feedback on any policies or issues, and will do my best to raise these concerns to the campus administration. I will also ensure that funds are used appropriately and transparently. Finally, I will consistently spread awareness for research positions, student jobs, and other beneficial opportunities.

To those who, like me, want to push the limits of what our ECS community is capable of, Vote to GIVE BACK to ECS!

Campaign Slogan/Tagline:
