Deniz Suzer
Seeking Candidacy for: Board of Directors, College of Health and Human Development

Biography:

Hello Titans! My name is Deniz Suzer, and I am a public health major with a minor in chemistry. I believe that every student’s voice matters. This is why I am passionate about advocacy and ensuring that all Titans have access to the resources and support they need to succeed. As an immigrant from Turkey, I understand the challenges of adapting to a new environment and am committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive campus for all students. Throughout my time at CSUF, I have taken on leadership roles, including serving as Treasurer and Fundraiser Chair for Eta Sigma Gamma, an Event Moderator for Women in Business and STEM, and Director of Event Planning for HHD-ICC. I have also had the opportunity to advocate for students at the legislative level through CHESS. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of the challenges HHD students face and the changes we need to see. I am running for the Board of Directors for Health and Human Development (HHD) because I believe in the power of student leadership to create meaningful change. I want to amplify our voices, enhance resources, and foster a more inclusive and supportive environment within our college

Statement/Platform:

If elected, I will focus on three key priorities: Access, Advocacy, and Action. I will advocate for better allocation of funding to ensure all HHD students and organizations receive the financial support they need. Expanding pre-health student resources, internship opportunities, and networking events will be my priority to better prepare students for their careers. Additionally, I will push for improved class scheduling and course availability to help students graduate on time. Advocating for HHD students also means strengthening the connection between students and administration. I plan to establish a monthly open forum with the Dean where students can voice concerns and collaborate on solutions. I will also push for expanded scholarships and financial aid opportunities to ensure affordability is never a barrier to education. Transfer, nursing, and master’s students often navigate highly competitive programs, and I will work to enhance their access to essential resources and opportunities for engagement. Beyond access and advocacy, I want to take real action to strengthen our HHD community. I will promote cultural weeks and student-led initiatives that celebrate the diverse backgrounds within our college. Additionally, I will work to increase student engagement and involvement opportunities, ensuring every student feels a sense of belonging. Transparency and accountability in decision-making processes will be a priority so that students are always informed and included in conversations that affect us. I am committed to making HHD a place where every student feels supported, empowered, and heard. Together, we can create a stronger, more connected campus. Go Titans!
